ST MARY'S WINFIELD & MCNIFF IRISH DANCERS AT THE MIDWAY NURSING HOMEClick Here for Irish Dancing Videos:
Saturday morning March 18th was a Great Day for the Irish... and everyone else at the Midway Nursing Home in Maspeth! Right after the final blessings of the 10:00am mass in the recreation room, the kids from the St. Mary's Children's Choir joined forces with the McNiff Irish Dancers to put on a St. Patrick's Day show for the residents.
We were so pleased that all of the children were accompanied by their parents and grandparents to make this a really big event! Everyone was prepared for the "WEARIN' O' THE GREEN as the kids became a sea of emerald, plaids and Happy St. Patrick's Day accents (Right down to their crazy Shamrock Antennae)!
The morning was a mix of Irish sing-along folk tunes such as When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Danny Boy, The Black Velvet Band, The Unicorn Song, I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover & Harrigan (that's me) to name a few. The Sing-along alternated with Irish soft shoe, hard shoe and 2 hand reel folk dances, complete with traditional Irish folk costumes. The residents were so happy and several asked us if we would come back. First grader Anthony Rutella summed it up nicely when he said to his teacher, "Miss Smith I had a great time!"
Of course the kids will be bringing the junior production of "Guys and Dolls" there in the next few months. For further information, please send an email to info@StMarysDramaGuild.org or visit www.stmarysdramaguild.org
