HISTORY
Founding and the Golden Era (1949 – Early 2000s)
The St. Mary's Drama Guild was founded in 1949 by Lindo Meli, a dedicated parishioner of the Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians Church. For over half a century, Lindo served as the heartbeat of the organization, directing and producing shows that made audiences laugh, cry, and marvel at the talent on stage. His remarkable 50+ year tenure as the driving force of the Guild concluded when he moved into semi-retirement following a production of The Odd Couple (Female Version).
The School Program Era (2005 – 2014)
In 2005, the Guild entered a new chapter when Ann Smith was approached to revive and adapt the program for the local grammar school. Even when the grammar school unfortunately closed its doors later that same year, Ann’s dedication kept the theatrical community alive. She independently maintained and ran the Drama Guild program for nearly a decade, stepping down in 2014.
Modern Era and Future Outlook (2014 – Present)
Since 2014, leadership of the St. Mary's Drama Guild has transitioned to a dedicated Board of Directors. The current leadership operates with a mission to deeply honor and respect the rich historical legacy left by Lindo Meli and Ann Smith. Today, the Guild focuses on modern expansion, creative progression, and broadening its reach, with a long-term vision of carrying the organization forward to celebrate its 100-year anniversary and beyond.
